Ventura, or Shisholop in Chumash is the county seat of Ventura County, California, United States, incorporated in 1866. It is located northwest of Los Angeles on the California coast. The western portion of the City stretches north along the Ventura River and is characterized by a narrow valley with steeply sloped areas along both sides. The steep slopes of the Ventura foothills abut the northern portion of the community. Much of the eastern portion is on relatively flat alluvial coastal plain lying along the western edge of the Oxnard Plain.

The Westside of the city is a large Subdivision of neighborhoods. The area is home to the first public housing projects. The area is known for a large transient population due to its proximity to the River. Pierpont Bay (Pierpont) is a residential neighborhood in the one-mile stretch between the Harbor and San Buenaventura State Beach. About Camarillo, California

Camarillo, California is a medium-sized city in Ventura county, California. The city has approximately sixteen neighborhoods and is the 123rd largest community in the state. The city motto is “Las Personas Son La Cuidad” which means “The People are the City”. The city has a council-manager form of city government and a warm summer Mediterranean climate. The main drag through town is the Ventura Freeway. Over 40% of adults over 25 in Camarillo have four-year degrees or more, nearly twice the national education average for U.S. communities. It is a diverse community racially, ethnically, economically and more. Common ancestries among residents include German, Irish, English, Italian and French. It has a bit of an international feel, because more than 15% of Camarillo residents were born outside of the U.S. borders. English is the #1 language, followed by Spanish and Tagalog.

The city spans 19.70 square miles of land area and it is predominantly a white-collar community, where nearly 88% of the workforce hold white-collar positions. It is also an upper-middle income community compared to state economic standards and a wealthy community compared to federal economic standards. The population estimate for Camarillo in 2018, estimated 69,127 residents and the approximate population density is around 3,450 people per square mile. Prior to the arrival of Europeans, the area was inhabited by the native Chumash tribes. There are several ancient sites in the area that feature painted artifacts like pictographs. After the arrival of Europeans projects which they called “progress” began, for example the railroad coastal route came through the area in 1898. Around 1910 the original townsite was laid out. The budding town was named after the Camarillo brothers, Adolpho and Juan. It was an agricultural community and in those early days the main crops were, lima beans, citrus fruits and walnuts. The raising, training and selling of Camarillo white horses were another important economic endeavor it in the community.St. John Seminary was established in 1939, on lands donated by Don Juan Camarillo. Camarillo state hospital opened in 1936, today the grounds serve as the campus of CSU. In recent years multiple large retail stores and mall areas were built include the state’s largest retail outlet mall.

Education for the youth of the community is primarily provided by the schools of the Pleasant Valley School District. The district 13 schools of varying education levels and a student body of around 7,400 students. Oxnard is the largest community, by population, in Ventura County, California and it is the 19th largest, by population, in the state. It is the largest of the principal cities in the Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura Metropolitan Area. Oxnard is located along Southern California’s beautiful coastline and it is part of the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. Before the arrival of Europeans, the Oxnard area was inhabited by the native Chumash tribes. When the Spanish arrived in 1542, they claimed the area for Spain. During the mission era, which began in the later part of the 1700s, the area was served by the Mission of San Buenaventura. In 1850, California became a U.S. state and ranches/rancheros became the main industry of the area. Henry T. Oxnard is considered one of the founders of the community and the city is named after him. Henry, along with his brothers established a successful sugar beat factory which helped spur the growth of the budding community and in 1903 the community was incorporated.

The city is served by four school districts, it has 54 public schools and a student body of more than 53,000 students. The city is home to a wonderful recreational harbor, Channel Islands Harbor and several beaches, such as Silver Strand Beach, Mandalay Beach, Oxnard Beach and others. Port Hueneme is a smaller medium sized coastal city in Ventura County, California. It has around five neighborhoods and a wonderful beachy atmosphere. It is a nautical community with a rich history tied to the ocean. It is home to U.S. Navy Port Hueneme and the Point Mugu Naval facility and therefore there are many members of the armed forces living in the city. It has a warm summer Mediterranean climate and a council-manage form of city government which all combines to create a cozy community. Nearly 20% of adults over 25 in the city hold four-year degrees or more, which is about average for U. S. communities. It is a highly ethnically diverse community with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Over 21% of residents of Port Hueneme are foreign born. English is the #1 language in the city, followed by Tagalog and Spanish.

The city spans 4.67 square miles, 4.45 of land and the remaining .22 square miles covered with water. It has a mixed workforce of predominantly white- and blue-collar workers and far less no-collar workers. It is a lower-middle income community compared to both state and federal economic standards. In 2017, the population was estimated at about 22,327 and the population density at about 5,000 people per square mile. In 2016, the estimated median household income in the city was $60,761 and the estimated per capita income was $24,541. Before the arrival of Europeans, the area was inhabited by the native Chumash tribes. Rodriguez Cabrillo was the first European explorer in the area, and he arrived in 1542. The Port Hueneme Wharf was constructed in 1871. The street grid for the community was laid out in 1888. And finally, in the spring of 1948 the community was incorporated. The 650-foot pier was constructed in 1956 and has been modified over the years. Today, it is a 1250-foot fishing pier. Since its legalization, the Cannabis industry is growing in the Port Hueneme area, including the cultivation, manufacturing, sales and distribution of the product. The Port of Hueneme is the only deep-water port between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The port is used by the Oxnard Harbor District and the Naval Base of Ventura county.

Public education in the city is provided by the schools of the Hueneme School District. The city is home to some sweet surf spots with year-round swells. Ojai is a small city in Ventura County, California that is located in the beautiful, lush Ojai valley northwest of Los Angeles. The city has four neighborhoods and is the 453 largest community in the state. The city has one of the lowest crime rates in the nation. Uniquely all chain stores are prohibited in Ojai giving the town the definite small-town charm of mom and pop shops. The city is blessed with a gorgeous Mediterranean climate. The city has a council/manager style of city government and carries the nickname “Shangri-La”. It is a beautiful and thriving tourist destination, which is known for its hiking trails, spiritual retreats, boutiques, lush hotels and endless recreational options. It is a well-educated town, over 50% of adults over 25 in Ojai have four-year degrees or higher. It is a semi-diverse community in terms of race and ethnicity. The majority of residents identify as Caucasian, followed by Asian and Hispanic. English remains the primary language in the city, followed by Spanish and Chinese.

The city spans 4.36 square miles of land area. It is a white-collar community, where more than 88% of the workforce hold white-collar positions. It is an upper=middle income community compared to state economic standards and a wealthy community compared to federal standards. Artists are fairly prevalent in the community as well, more so than in 90% of U. S. communities. Uniquely, 16% of the workforce works from home, primarily through tele-commuting. The 2016 population estimate was 7,461 and the approximate population density was 1,745 people per square mile. In 2016, the estimated median household income in Ojai was $65,886 and the per capita income was estimated at $39,291. In the same year, the median house or condo value was $730, 963, the mean price on all housing units was $593,881 and the median gross rent was $1,402.

Before the arrival of European explorers and missionaries, the area was inhabited by the native Chumash tribes. The town was laid out in 1874 by R.G. Surdam. Surdam named the town Nordhoff in honor of author Charles Nordhoff. In 1898, the budding community was connected by rail to the national rail network by the Ventura and Ojai railroad. The town of Nordhoff became a popular wintering point for the wealthy and in August of 1921 the city was incorporated. During the tumultuous years leading up to WWI anti-German sentiments led to the changing of the community’s name, from Nordhoff to Ojai. More recently, in 2016, the Taormina neighborhood was declared the city’s first historic district. This neighborhood features beautiful architecture of French Normandy designs.

Public education is provided by the schools of the Ojai Unified School district. The district has ten schools of varying education levels and a student body of around 2,640 students. Private schools in the area include Villanova Prep, Oak Grove School, Laurel Springs School and others. Ojai is a beautiful city of artists, artisans, galleries and boutiques. Oak View is a residential community North of Casitas Springs and South of Ojai and divided by the Ventura River. The community population of approximately 5000 has mostly single-family residences, a few ranches, horse properties and investment properties. The community has the conveniences of daily shopping and the benefits of being a short distance from downtown Ojai and approximately 12 miles to Ventura, the beaches and Ventura Harbor.

Oak View is an unincorporated community in Ventura County, California, United States. The community is located along the Ventura River in a narrow valley between the towns of Casitas Springs (south) and Mira Monte (north). Lake Casitas and the community of Ojai are also nearby. For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined it as a census-designated place (CDP). The census definition of the area may not precisely correspond to local understanding of the area with the same name. At the 2010 census, the population was 4,066, down from 4,199 at the 2000 census, making it the third largest community between Ojai and the city of Ventura.

Although it is located within the Ojai Valley, the town itself is located within the boundaries of the Ventura Unified School District. There is one school, Arnaz Elementary (aka, Sunset Elementary), which is located on the south western portion of the town, at 400 Sunset. Previously, two schools served the town. However, Oak View Elementary School, located between Prospect Street and Valley Road, and between Mahoney Avenue and Santa Ana Boulevard, was closed by the district. The County considered selling the property to a housing developer who planned to build a high-density development (up to 33 houses) meant to serve low-income owners / renters. Instead, a successful local ballot initiative was passed, which places a parcel tax on the residential property owners. The yearly tax helps to pay down the long-term purchase of the school from the County. The former school property was renamed, The Park and Resource Center, which maintains the property and manages non-profit and for-profit organizations serving the community

Somis is an unincorporated community in Ventura County, California. It was established in 1892 by Thomas Bard and D.T. Perkins on a portion of the Rancho Las Posas Mexican land grant The City is in the Las Posas Valley on the south bank of Fox Barranca, just west of Arroyo Las Posas. The name of this townsite may have been derived from “water of the scrub oak,” a Chumash placename referring to the presence of water. There was a Ranchería named Somes noted in records from 1795 and 1796.

Like many of the farms on the adjacent Oxnard Plain, the crops of corn, wheat and barley grown here were shipped through the wharf that had been constructed in Hueneme in 1871. Agricultural products were able to be shipped by rail when the line from Los Angeles to San Francisco was routed through the valley and a stop was established adjacent to the community. The current spelling of the name was established when the railroad came through.

The area that would one day be Bell Canyon, was inhabited by the Native Chumash people prior to the arrival of European explorers and missionaries. The Community is named in memory of a legendary figure from the area’s early history, homesteader Charles A. Bell. In 1845, during the time when Mexico controlled the area, the land was part of the Rancho El Scorpion land grant. In 1871, the land was acquired by Miguel Leonis, who combined them with other area land holdings. Leonis used his acquired lands to raise herds of sheep and cattle. In 1967, the Bell Canyon area was purchased by the Spruce Land Corporation in partnership with Boise Cascade with the intention of developing a gated community. In 1968, the Bell Canyon Equestrian Center was designed and built by Cliff May and opened to the public that same year. Fillmore is a small city in Ventura County, California. The city is located at the foot of the Topatopa mountains and is close neighbors with the Spese Condor Sanctuary as well as Los Padres National Forest. Common crops include oranges, lemons and avocados. The single largest employer in the community is the Fillmore Unified School District. The Portola expedition, in 1769, brought the first Europeans to the area. The city was founded in 1887, after the Southern Pacific Railroad arrived in the area. The tow was named in honor of J.A. Fillmore, a railroad superintendent. The city was officially incorporated in 1914. Today, public education is provided by the schools of the Fillmore Unified School District. The district has eight schools of various educational levels K-12 and has a student body of more than 3,750 students.
